According to Webstock Inc., citing foreign media on February 19, Rachmat Makkasau, CEO of Indonesian copper miner PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara, told parliament on Wednesday that the company is seeking "some flexibility" from the government to allow them to export copper concentrates, as their smelter is operating at only 48% capacity.

He stated that the company has approximately 200,000 mt of concentrate inventory available for export.

Indonesia has banned the export of raw ores such as copper, but the government extended the copper concentrate export deadline for Amman Mineral and PT Freeport Indonesia until December last year while they completed the construction of their smelters.

Makkasau noted that Amman Mineral's smelter was completed last year, but after a fire occurred shortly after the commissioning of Freeport Indonesia's copper smelter, the company has taken an especially cautious approach to its commissioning process.

"Therefore, considering the many uncertainties during the commissioning process, we hope to gain flexibility in terms of exports," Makkasau told lawmakers.
